Diversity, equity and inclusion at SFM
SFM strives to create an environment where employees are valued, empowered to positively support our business objectives and customers, and be recognized for their individual and team contributions. We believe that building a truly inclusive culture is essential for all our employees and invites them to bring their authentic, whole selves to work and experience a sense of belonging and support.
Diversity is a range of human differences. In the workplace it’s the mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values and beliefs as assets to the groups and organizations with which they interact.
Equal opportunity employer
We are committed to hiring, developing and retaining a diverse team, fostering an inclusive culture, and investing in equity across our organization. Having a workforce with a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, ideas and experiences is essential for us to be successful in our jobs and better serve our customers.
SFM and each of its parent companies, subsidiaries and/or affiliated companies are Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employers. SFM provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, status with regard to public assistance, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

EPIC Committee
SFM’s diversity, equity and inclusion group — named the EPIC Committee — promotes and educates employees on diversity and inclusion.
EPIC stands for:
E – Empower individuals from underrepresented groups
P – Provide better resources and career development
I – Invite, recruit and retain more underrepresented individuals
C – Care for and listen to those affected by inequity to foster unity and support
The committee promotes an inclusive culture at SFM by hosting community engagement opportunities for employees to get involved, offering educational webinars, and educating employees on diversity and inclusion topics.
The group also facilitates SFM’s Bob Lund Scholarship, which provides college scholarships to students from historically underserved communities, invests in future leaders and introduces them to careers in the insurance industry.
Everyday Inclusion app
SFM encourages employees to download the Everyday Inclusion app, which allows anyone with a smartphone or tablet to access diversity, equity and inclusion information. The goal of the app is to build knowledge on a daily basis, in digestible pieces making it practical to apply. Access to the app is free for SFM employees.
